France derives about 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy due to a long-standing policy based on energy security. It is the world’s largest net exporter of electricity due to very low cost of generation, and gains over €3 billion per year. These are reasons enough for countries like India to follow France to increase its nuclear power capacity. There is an impending need to boost nuclear power capacity in the country. The reason being energy consumption in India is on high and cheaper substitutes like nuclear energy have to be considered in order to fulfill the energy requirements and contribute towards improved quality of life. Uranium fuelled power is another option that can be explored to accomplish energy needs of the country.
