“Several countries are keen to sell nuclear reactors to India but any deal in this regard would be struck only on terms set down by the Government,” Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Prithviraj Chavan told the Rajya Sabha recently.
The India-U.S. civilian nuclear deal, after becoming operational, is moving satisfactorily, with New Delhi now negotiating with vendors, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar has said recently in Kolkata.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei has said that nuclear safety worldwide is steadily improving but the risk of accidents or malicious acts can never be ruled out and there is no room for complacency.
The Indian Government has recently revealed that nuclear energy will be an important component of the 24 ‘critical initiatives’ to be taken up by different ministries in India to combat climate change.
